Defibrillator Training – how do you train people ?

We train people to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) which is a machine designed to administer an electric shock to a casualty whose heart has stopped beating normally. You might have seen such techniques on TV shows such as ER and Casualty.

People often ask :
How do you safely demonstrate these machines without causing danger ?

Well it is quite simple – we use a “dummy” machine – it looks, feels and sounds just like the real thing right down to the pads for the casualty’s chest, except that it does not administer the shocks.
