Food Safety Ratings to be compulsory ?

Proposals are under way to make it compulsory for food businesses to display their Food Hygiene Ratings (formally know as Scores on the Doors) in their public areas.

This would make Wales the first part of the UK to have such scores displayed in all food premises – the theory being that consumers will be provided with enough information about the ratings within their local areas to ensure that they can make informed choices about food safety.

The proposal has support from groups such as Consumer Focus and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health as well as cross-bench within the Welsh Assembly.
