PTLLS practical assessment : micro-teaching

Micro-teaching is one of the Practical Assignments that you have to complete in order to achieve the PTLLS qualification. You will be asked to deliver a lesson on a required subject- a subject that you are qualified in.

Make sure your lesson includes :Carlton Training PTLLS

  1. introduction,
  2. main content and
  3. conclusion. You need to
  4. involvement for your students,

You will need to encourage your candidates to participate you should assess them to make sure that that the process of teaching and learning was successful and they actually learnt what you needed them to.

Make sure lesson objectives have been met and you don’t go over the time limit. During the micro-teaching session you should communicate effectively with your learners and include a variety of activities and teaching methods to meet your students` learning needs and keep them interested.

Before your lesson you will be required to draw up a lesson plan including lesson aims and objectives, teaching and assessment methods and teachers` and learners` activities. Your assessor will need a copy before the start of your micro teaching.

Ensure that you have prepared all materials, handouts, resources and props that you will need to use during your micro-teaching session. Get everything ready for your lesson before it starts. Also, it is always a good idea to have a plan B which you can use in case of any unforeseen situation.

Check the class room :

  1. wipe the board
  2. make sure that all electric equipment is working.
  3. Get the seating arrangement right.

This will all help you be at ease, giving your lesson confidently and demonstrating good subject knowledge. After your lesson you will have to complete self evaluation and reflect on your own teaching. This also gives you a chance to receive a feedback from your peers and tutor showing the strengths and areas for development of your lesson.

Micro –teaching is a great experience and you can learn a lot from it.
