What do I need to get a Personal Licence?

You will need to get qualified on one of our Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH) 1 day Course we run around the country, this will enable you to obtain the accredited qualifcation you need in order to apply for your licence.

Where do I apply to get a Personal Licence?

You apply to the local Licensing Authority where you live when you make your application.

Can I have more than one Personal Licence?

No, you only need one Personal Licence.

For how long does a Personal Licence last?

A Personal Licence lasts for 10 years.

What is the fee payable to Licensing Authority for a Personal Licence.

The fee is £37.00.

Where can I renew my Personal Licence?

Your Personal Licence must be renewed with the local Licensing Authority that issued it.

I have a Personal Licence which Licensing Authority do I need to tell if I change my address?

You must tell the Licensing Authority that issued your Person Licence

Can I do the Personal Licence Holders course and take the exam if I am not yet 18 years old?

Yes, you can but you will have to wait until you are 18 to apply for your Personal Licence

Does the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) need to have a Personal Licence?

Yes, to be a Designated Premises Supervisor you my have a Person Licence.  It is the Designated Premises Supervisor who authorises the supply of alcohol under the conditions on the Premises Licence.

Does the Designated Premises Supervisor have to be on the premises whenever alcohol is being sold?

No, although the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) is in charge of the day to day running of the premises he or she does not have to be on the premises at any particular time.

What are "relevant offences"?

These are criminal offences that are listed in the Licensing Act 2003.   If you are found guilty of a "relevant offence" you may have your Personal Licence cancelled (forfeited) for up to five years or suspended for up to six months.
