Legislation introduced in September 2007 reformed training, qualifications and continuing professional development (CPD) for teachers in the Further Education sector (colleges, adult education etc.) in England.

All teachers starting to work in the sector since 1 September 2007 must achieve the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) award within one year of appointment (and many employers consider PTLLS the minimum for any new teachers before they join) . Following PTLLS they can continue on to a CTLLS.
Our PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) courses are being held regularly at our Chesterfield centre, along with our other teacher training courses including the 2886 Conflict Management Trainers Certificate course.
PTLLS courses at colleges such as Carlton Training are to give teachers, trainers and instructors or those wishing to teach in the adult education sector, colleges and workplaces, a recognised, good quality qualification that will show that they have the required skills to carry out training and assess their learners’ progress during that training.

Yes, even if you have the A1 Assessors award you will still be required to gain the PTLLS qualifcation if you wish to teach adults. This is because the A1 award is for assessing NVQ qualifcations only and does not give you the teaching skills which PTLLS does.

Yes ! Practical and theory assignments have to be completed to achieve your award. Some of them will consist of your active participation during the course and for some you will be allocated additional time after the course. All assignments will have to be ready by a deadline agreed between the tutor and the group
