Awarding Body and exams

Here at Carlton Training we work with various exam boards or “Awarding Bodies” as they are now called, and we are approved by several of them to offer different qualifications.  However with all this variety there is always room for confusion about who does what and how the different qualifications are organised so here is a rough guide.

Awarding Bodies – these are national organisations which award certificates and set examinations

Centres – organisations such as Carlton Training which are approved by Awarding Bodies to run courses and examinations

Examinations are set by the awarding bodies and carried out at Centre locations.

Some qualifications are what is known as “Centre Assessed” these are where the assessment is not by examination but by the Centre carrying out the assessment e.g. course work as on the PTLLS course, practical assesment as on the CCTV course. Although the Centre conduct these, the qualifications are issued by the Awarding body.
