Course structure

The Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) will enable you to undertake both competence-based and knowledge-based exercises. You will learn the most effective principles and practices to use when you are completing an assessment at work or in a training environment. 

We will cover a range of topics to help you assess simulations, skills tests, oral and written questioning, assignments, projects, case studies, recognising prior learning and more. We will help you gain the skills to:

  • Understand the Principles and Practices of Assessment
  • Assess occupational competence in the work environment
  • Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

Course outcomes

Upon completing this course successfully, you will be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA). You will know and understand the key principles of assessment and be able to develop and improve current assessment systems in your workplace or training centre. This certification gives you the skillset to complete:

  • assessments in the classroom or learning environment
  • assessments in the workplace

Course progression

Gaining your Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) provides you with a useful qualification needed to start-up and run your own training centre, or improve assessing at your current workplace. This forms part of the group of qualifications is known as the Teaching, Assessing and Quality Assurance (TAQA).

Course Entry Requirements

You will be required to carry out assessments in your workplace and learning environment after the course as part of the qualification requirements. This could be in your own workplace, a voluntary group or a community setting.

We will assess you on the theory covered throughout the course and how you apply these skills to plan and carry out assessments at work or in a training facility.
